At Ascent, our Self-Driving Car Robotics Engineers and Field Test Engineers are focused on developing the interface between our AI systems and the physical world transferring our research results into reality. Robotic Testing includes evaluation and validation of these robotic systems and AI algorithms.

As a member of the Autonomous Vehicles Robotics Engineering Team, you'll work closely with software engineers and robotics engineers on our diverse range of projects including: prototyping software and hardware components, providing software testing and programming support, evaluation of internal developments in the real world including test tracks and traffic. This role requires some software or robotic skills but we have plenty of hands-on work too ranging from flying drones around the office through work on sensors on our test car platform to full-scale self-driving tests in traffic.

For this position, we are looking for roboticists, test engineers, QA engineers who have experience with ROS and hands-on work with sensors. Self-Driving or ADAS feature testing experience is a big plus!

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and execute test scenarios for self-driving
  • Test and evaluate hardware and software, maintain self-driving robotic platforms
  • Report and present testing status and and software development results clearly, verbally and in writing
  • Work with other engineers to integrate AI and software products and research results onto robotic platforms
  • Keep thorough documentation of test, evaluation and validation results
  • Monitor systems while in field testing to ensure everything is operating as intended
  • Robotic and sensory data collection

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • BSc/BEng degree in a STEM field
  • Experience with at least one programming language (Python and/or C++ preferred)
  • Familiarity with ROS
  • Self-motivated learner
  • Experience with software testing (manual or automated)
  • Software debugging skills
  • Hands-on experience with mobile robotic sensors (cameras, Lidars, etc.)
  • Linux experience (especially: networking, file systems, processes)

Plus points for any of the following

  • BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng degree in robotics, mechatronics, electrical/computer engineering or computer science
  • Experience with embedded microcontrollers and single board computers
  • Knowledge of Ethernet, Serial, CAN or other network protocols and their usage
  • Experience with mapping or data collection for self-driving
  • Interest in machine learning and AI
  • Familiarity with automotive safety standards
  • Experience with fault-tolerant systems, redundancy
  • Experience with hardware testing / QA
  • Experience with bringing a product from prototype to production
  • Japanese drivers' license
  • English - Japanese bilingual
